Clifford Chance Amsterdam has had a longstanding collaboration with Pride Photo for the last 6 years. The foundation organises various photo exhibitions and activities all over the world to promote the emancipation and awareness of the LGBTQI+ community.
Pride Photo's annual highlight is its international photo competition, followed by an exhibition which in 2020 will take place in Amsterdam in November. This year's exhibition has the theme of 'Curiosity - the compass to our passions'. Through this edition once again Pride Photo is exploring photography relating to sexual and gender diversity. If you are interested in the coming edition, or you would like to participate, visit the website.
The photograph below, titled 'Birthday Girl' (2019) by Anja Matthes, was selected by last year's Pride Photo jury as one of the winners of the 2019 competition. In the photo, Aniyah is celebrating her 21st birthday party with her family Nash, Starasia, Jocelyn, Diamond and Denim.
The underground Kiki Ballroom scene in New York City is a community organized by LGBTQ youth (14-25 years) of colour. The familial structure of Kiki houses - mother, father, sister, brother - often acts as a surrogate for a biological family for those who have been abandoned by theirs. Talented, beautiful Aniyah is the Overall Mother of the House of Juicy Couture, and is a celebrity in the Kiki scene.
