Philipp advises on a broad range of EU and UK antitrust law issues, including complex merger and cartel matters. He also has an active EU and UK competition compliance and antitrust litigation practice across a wide spectrum of industry sectors, including industrials, consumer goods, digital platforms/ e‑commerce, financial services, telecoms, media, music, pharma and transport. He also advises on UK criminal cartel offence matters. Prior to joining Clifford Chance, Philipp was Chair of the European Competition practice of a major US law firm. Previous to that, he was the Deputy Director of the Cartel Investigations division at the UK Competition Authority (then the Office of Fair Trading) and the Co-Chair of the Leniency Working Group of the European Competition Network (ECN) from 2005 to 2007.
He is also recognised as a leading practitioner in 2024 by Chambers UK, Chambers Europe and Chambers Global. Chambers noted that he “receives considerable praise for his work both on EC or CMA behavioural investigations and on large-scale mergers” and highlights that clients find him “incredibly reliable, quick and decisive” and that he presents “his advice in an easily digestible format.” Philipp is also recognised by The Legal 500 UK (2024) for EU and Competition.
