Nicholas Hughes is a partner in our private capital M&A team, providing specialist advice to private equity houses and other private capital providers on their M&A, joint venture and platform transactions in the UK and internationally in the renewable energy and broader Energy Transition sectors. Nicholas is co-head of Clifford Chance's global Energy & Resources sector, and our Africa Practice Leader for Power & Renewables.

  • Brookfield on the acquisition of a 12.45% minority stake in a 3.5 GW portfolio of four operational UK offshore wind farms from Ørsted: Hornsea 1, Hornsea 2, Walney Extension, and Burbo Bank Extension.
  • Iberdrola on its acquisition of Electricity North West, one of the UK’s DNOs, for an equity value of £2.1 billion (€2.5 billion).
  • Actis on a 50:50 joint venture with Fortescue to develop, build, own and operate a large green hydrogen project in Oman.
  • BlackRock's Diversified Infrastructure fund, Goldman Sachs' West Street Infrastructure Partners and Mubadala Investment Company on the take-private of Calisen Plc, a UK energy infrastructure services provider, and its subsequent merger with MapleCo.
