Nicholas Johnson

Nicholas Johnson is an associate in the Americas Energy and Infrastructure group. He advises commercial banks, development finance institutions, and other agency lenders in the financing of energy and infrastructure projects in the United States and internationally.

Nic also advises clients in connection with federal energy regulatory matters and energy market rules in the United States as a part of the Energy Regulatory and Markets group.

Finance Matters:

Turk Eximbank financing, Turkey: Finance parties regarding a EUR €1 billion loan to Türkiye İhracat Kredi Bankası A.Ş. to fund green infrastructure and export projects. The financing is guaranteed in part by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD).

• Turk Eximbank financing, Turkey: Finance parties regarding a EUR €300 million loan to Türkiye İhracat Kredi Bankası A.Ş. to fund trade sub-loans for export-focused enterprises with priority given to green exports, SMEs, women-inclusive companies, and medium-to-high technology companies. The financing is guaranteed in part by the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA).

• Green hydrogen production pilot project, Brazil: Commercial bank in connection with a USD $54 million export credit agency facility backed by Euler Hermes for the development of a green hydrogen production facility.

• Industrial chemical company facility, Brazil: Commercial bank in connection with a USD $42 million export credit agency facility backed by Euler Hermes for the retrofitting of an existing industrial chemical plant.

• Seabras-1 cable project, Brazil: Natixis and a syndicate of commercial banks in connection with an export credit agency facility backed by BPI France for the development of Seabras-1, an undersea data cable.

• Jamaica Public Service Company Limited, Jamaica: IDB Invest in connection with a USD $100 million credit facility to Jamaica Public Service Company Limited to modernize the country’s electricity grid and expand access to electricity. The credit facility includes the mobilization of USD $50 million from CIBC Caribbean.

• Monte Plata Solar, Dominican Republic: FMO, the Dutch Entrepreneurial Development Bank, CIFI, and the CIFI Sustainable Infrastructure Debt Fund in the partial refinancing of Phase I and financing of Phase II of the Monte Plata solar project in the Dominican Republic.

• FINCA financing, Haiti: IDB Invest in connection with a USD $1.5 million credit facility to FINCA Haiti S.A. to finance the growth of its microfinance portfolio.

• Nant Energy Project, Sierra Leone: US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) and ECOWAS Bank for International Development (EBID) regarding a USD $332 million facility for the development of a new 105MW power plant in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

• Biofuels production, Kenya: International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Italian Climate Fund in connection with a USD $210 million investment in Eni S.p.A.'s Kenya subsidiary to expand the production and processing of advanced biofuels in Kenya.

• PortMiami cruise terminal, United States: Intesa Sanpaolo S.p.A and Cassa Depositi e Prestiti S.p.A in connection with a EUR €350 million export credit agency facility backed by SACE for financing to MSC Cruises for the construction of a mega cruise terminal at PortMiami.

• Multinational energy company in connection with the project structuring and energy regulatory aspects of a solar facility collocated with an industrial plant.

• U.S. electricity transmission organization in connection with federal energy regulatory matters.

• Portfolio company in connection with the energy regulatory aspects of proposed generator facility acquisitions and redevelopments.
