Marcela's practice encompasses a broad set of areas in both the civil, regulatory, and criminal contexts. She has represented global banks, companies, and individuals in connection with regulatory investigations and white-collar criminal defense matters before the DOJ, SEC, and other federal and state enforcement agencies.

Her practice also includes representing global banks and corporations in a variety of complex civil cases related to securities class actions and fiduciary duty. Marcela maintains an active pro bono practice focused on humanitarian asylum and federal criminal defense of indigent clients.

Prior to joining the firm, Marcela clerked for the Hon. Angel Kelley of the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts.

  • Represented a multinational fintech company in consolidated putative securities class action alleging claims under the Securities Exchange Act.
  • Represented a major global bank in recordkeeping investigations and resulting resolutions before the SEC and CFTC.
  • Conducted internal investigation of a mining company in response to potential FCPA and securities fraud violations.
  • Counseled an investment management software company on compliance with anti-money laundering laws and regulations.
  • Represented individual European bankers charged with conspiring with U.S. taxpayers to hide assets and evade federal income taxes.
  • Represented a securities broker dealer in FINRA arbitrations related to alleged breach of fiduciary duty and other claims.

Pro Bono:

  • Represented various individuals from Central America and West Africa seeking asylum in the United States based on humanitarian grounds.
  • Represented indigent defendant in criminal wire fraud and identity theft case.
  • Represented indigent defendant who served as cooperating witness in a drug conspiracy case.
