Yaru is a senior associate in our Derivatives, Structured Products & Financial Regulatory practice. She is interested in legal reforms, innovation and all things FinTech-related. She combines both regulatory and transactional experiences, including advising on licensing and regulatory requirements in the conduct of financial services business (both in the traditional financial products and digital assets space such as tokenisation of assets), as well as drafting and negotiating of derivatives documentation and securitisation transactions.
She is active in advocacy work, and regularly liaises with regulators and industry bodies in relation to consultation exercises with respect to proposed legislative changes. She is also a research fellow at the Centre for Banking & Finance Law, NUS Law, and speaks and writes on cutting-edge financial regulatory and FinTech issues, in both local and international legal journals.
- Advising financial institutions on asset tokenisation initiatives under MAS’ Project Guardian
- Advising payment services providers (including digital payment token service providers) on licensing and conduct of business requirements under the payment services regulatory framework
- Assisting with licensing applications and other regulatory exemptions for financial institutions, including FinTech startups in their establishment of electronic investment trading platforms
- Assisting financial institutions in their banking and product documentation, and various regulatory conduct of business requirements, including product characterisations as well as outsourcing and personal data protection requirements
- Advising banks, financial institutions and corporates on regulatory issues relating to derivatives and structured finance, including derivatives reporting and netting issues
- Assisting financial institutions and major corporates on their ISDA documentation in relation to aviation financing, project financing, and general hedging transactions
- Assisting banks and financial institutions in relation to establishment of structured note programmes and securitisation transactions
