Robert Shu specialises in international arbitration and commercial litigation.
Robert has advised clients on a broad range of disputes, including in the construction, power, banking and telecommunications sectors. He has experience with arbitrations conducted under the ICC, LCIA, DIAC and UNCITRAL rules.
- Successfully defending a multinational energy company in a US$120 million UNCITRAL arbitration in respect of a claim brought by a joint venture in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (London seat, Saudi law).
- Advising a state-owned oil refiner in a US$130 million LCIA arbitration in respect of a breach of contract and unjust enrichment claim against a crude oil trader (London seat, English law).
- Advising a multinational energy company in a US$80 million ICC arbitration in respect of a delay liquidated damages and change in law claim relating to a combined cycle power plant in Malaysia (Singapore seat, English law).
- Successfully obtaining a final anti-suit injunction for a multinational oil and gas company to restrain a US$1 billion claim brought by a JV partner in Nigeria in breach of an arbitration agreement and advising on related ICC arbitration proceedings (London seat, Nigerian law).
- Successfully opposing, in the High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court, an application brought by a judgment debtor to set aside a court order enforcing a final Hong Kong arbitration award obtained by an investment fund.
