Phil has a broad range of experience in complex commercial and financial services litigation and has particular expertise in contentious regulatory matters, having been seconded to the FCA's Enforcement and Market Oversight Division.
Phil acts for major financial institutions and corporates on high value and reputationally significant disputes. Phil also regularly represents clients subject to investigations and disciplinary action brought by regulators and has experience at both RDC and EDMC meetings/hearings.

- Acting for a senior manager of a major bank in relation to a PRA and FCA investigation.
- Advising a major bank in relation to a large-scale FCA investigation concerning AML and anti-corruption issues.
- Advising a financial institution in respect of potential competition law infringements.
- Seconded to the FCA's Enforcement and Market Oversight Division, responsible for conducting a variety of investigations into both individuals and firms.
- Advising a major bank in relation to a large internal investigation concerning AML and anti-corruption issues.
Banks
- Acting for a major global bank on its defence of a complex and wide-ranging claim brought on behalf of a large number of claimants against several banks arising from the alleged manipulation of USD LIBOR.
- Acting for a major global bank on its defence of a high-value class action brought by shareholders under sections 90 and 90A FSMA 2000.
- Advising a major bank in a Commercial Court case relating to the close-out of a derivatives portfolio.
Insurance and reinsurance
- Advising a pharmaceuticals company in respect of potential claims against an insurance broker.
- Advising a major corporate on a large number of business interruption insurance claims relating to losses suffered due to the Covid pandemic.
General Commercial
- Advising generics companies in respect of threatened follow-on competition damages claims.
- Acting for a major financial institution in relation to claims against a sovereign entity and its Ministry of Finance.
- Advising corporates in respect of anti-bribery and corruption and AML issues.
Pro-bono
- Seconded to Reprieve to assist its casework team on a range of strategic civil and public law actions in relation to human rights breaches.
