Houston: Global law firm Clifford Chance has hired Todd Lowther as partner in the firm's US Tax practice as part of the continuing expansion of its US Energy & Infrastructure practice and the growth of its Houston office. Lowther brings significant energy sector taxation experience further strengthening the firm's global tax offering to clients. He advises on the full range of oil and gas transactions including the taxation of natural resources, carbon capture tax credits, partnerships, international joint ventures and other transactions common in the industry.

Paul Seraganian, Regional Head of Tax, Pensions and Employment, said, "We are always looking to further bolster our tax offering in line with client needs, and Todd's broad-based experience in the energy space will be an excellent US-based addition to our global team."

Sharis Pozen, Regional Managing Partner of the Americas, added, "This latest great hire builds on the incredible momentum of our Energy & Infrastructure practice in the US and our growing team in Houston, which now tops 28 attorneys. The addition of Todd will deliver immediate value to our clients."

Lowther also provides general tax advice on corporate and business matters, including business formation, reorganization, and partnership and limited liability company structuring. He has experience in the structuring, organization and capitalization of private equity funds, and frequently advises management teams from both a transactional and tax perspective. The US Tax team now has 24 lawyers, who form part of a 170-strong global practice with 40 partners providing comprehensive advice on complex tax matters.

Lowther said, "I'm thrilled to be joining this dynamic team and look forward to integrating with the firm as we help clients navigate a very active energy market."

Lowther is the firm's tenth senior hire so far in 2024 following the appointments of Energy M&A Counsel Joclynn Marsh, Corporate M&A partner Chang-Do Gong, Insurance M&A counsel Dave Marley, Antitrust counsel Lauren Rackow, Corporate M&A counsel Joshua Bernard, Restructuring & Insolvency partners Brian Lohan and Maja Zerjal Fink, and Energy & Infrastructure partners Ty'Meka M.
