AI Series: Responsible AI – navigating evolving law, policy and public perception
Event/Webinar 3 Oct 2023
Organisations developing strategies for responsible AI development and use are navigating evolving law, policy and public perception in relation to key issues such as fairness, transparency, explainability, compliance with law, effective governance and risk mitigation
On 3rd October 2023, we hosted a hybrid session with an international panel of experts to examine differing approaches to AI regulation and policy globally, explore changing public perceptions of AI, and discuss what this means in practice for organisations creating forward-looking, multijurisdictional AI strategies.
Topics we looked at include:
- Predictions for the future
- AI in law enforcement
- Education (and the continued problem with a lack of diversity in learning STEM subjects)
- Politics and elections (and the problem of deepfakes)
- Should some AI applications be blacklisted?
We also spoke about the ideas in the report we recently published in partnership with Milltown Partners Responsible AI in Practice which analyses the results of focus groups of policy-informed individuals conducted in the US, the UK and Germany. Groups were asked about issues such as bias, consent, copyright, transparency, content moderation and AI governance.
