MiFID2 and MiFIR – What you need to know
Almost four years since the Commission began its review of the original Markets in Financial
Instruments Directive (MiFID), the final texts of MiFID2 and MiFIR are about to be published in the
Official Journal. The protracted legislative process is testament to the scope and complexity of these comprehensive reforms. If, as expected, publication occurs in the second week of June, the new rules will enter into force in mid July 2014 and will start to apply to firms 30 months later, early in 2017.
Focusing on the Level 1 text, a new Clifford Chance briefing provides an overview of the structure and major features of this multi-faceted legislation, highlights key areas of concern and illustrates some of the implementation issues likely to face the market in coming months.
