This year's exhibition has been curated by DC-based arts writer, publisher, designer, and art historian Andy Johnson, bringing together works from the vibrant LGBTQ+ community including queer, trans Taiwanese-American artist Airin Yung, industry-recognized educator and interdisciplinary artist Wes Holloway, and award-winning Latinx Queer artist of Mexican descent Hoesy Corona.

Curator: Andy Johnson

Andy Johnson is a DC-based arts writer, publisher, designer, and art historian. He is currently Senior Admin for GW’s Department of American Studies; contributing editor for Dirt; and adjunct faculty in Art History at Georgetown University, teaching courses on queer art, photography, and visual culture. He previously served as Director of Gallery 102 at the Corcoran School, and editor/creative director of Archeion: Journal of Queer Archives, published by the Stonewall National Museum & Archives. He was the 2018 Apprentice Curator for the DC Arts Center, and a 2019 Visiting Arts Writer and Critic for The Chart. Johnson is the recipient of both a Curatorial Grant and an Arts & Humanities Fellowship Grant from the DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities (DCCAH), and a Wherewithal Research Grant from Washington Project for the Arts, as part of The Andy Warhol Foundation’s Regranting Program.

Artist: Airin Yung

Airin Yung is a queer, trans, Taiwanese-American artist based in DC by way of California and Taiwan. Their favorite practice is photography though they are also a painter and violinist and attorney. Their passion and practice is rooted in community and seeing each individual as truthfully as they can.

Queer Portraits From The Park (QPFTP) is a photography project that provides free portraits to all LGBTQIA+ persons and aims to comprehensively document the expansive LGBTQIA+ community in Washington, D.C. Started in 2022, this project is Airin Yung’s offering to the community.

Artist: Wes Holloway

Wes Holloway has had a dedication and enthusiasm for the arts extending as far back as he can recall. In 2003, after one year of undergraduate work at The University of Texas-Austin, he broke his C5-C6 vertebrae in a diving accident, suffered a spinal cord injury, and thus became paralyzed from the chest down. He later returned to complete both his BA and BFA in Studio Art. In professional capacities, he has worked as the Visual Arts Director at the Katy Visual and Performing Arts Center, artist and volunteer manager at ArtReach, and teaching artist for Texas Children’s Hospital bedside Arts In Medicine program

Artist: Hoesy Corona

Hoesy Corona is a Latinx Queer artist of Mexican descent creating uncategorized and multidisciplinary art spanning installation, performance, and sculpture. In the studio, Hoesy’s work highlights the complex relationship between humans and the environment by focusing on our changing climate and its impact on habitation and migration patterns. Corona has exhibited widely in galleries, museums, and public spaces in the United States and internationally.
